The purpose of the Ruth L. Kirschtein National Research Service Award (NRSA) program is to prepare qualified individuals for careers that will have significant impact on the nation’s primary care research agenda and to ensure that a diverse and highly trained workforce is available to assume leadership roles in the area of primary medical care research. Grants are awarded to eligible institutions to develop or enhance postdoctoral research training opportunities for individuals who are planning to pursue careers in primary care research.
Eligible entities train primary care providers in medicine or oral health and have received federal support as evidenced by receipt of a grant under Title VII, section 747 of the Public Health Service Act, designed to prepare the primary care health workforce. Project directors and trainees have separate eligibility requirements.
