Scholarships, Loan Repayment

  • The Office of Primary Care, Rural and Ethnic Health administers a Health Care Workforce Program through the Department of Health to assist underserved communities to address shortages of health care workers including:
    • The Rural Physicians and Physician Assistants Grant and Scholarship
    • The Urban Special Population Health Care Provider Financial Assistance Program
    • The Nurse Education Financial Assistance Program

Career Ladder Development

  • Utah has identified competency levels that differentiate nurses at Associate, Baccalaureate and Masters levels. The involved universities are using this information to enable nurses to further their education without losing or having to repeat course credits, thus shortening the length of time required to obtain an advanced degree.

Data Collection

  • The Medical Education Council collects information on a number of health professions in Utah.
