Presentations: Your Role  

Often the only experiences young people have with health care professionals are negative ones like when they got sick or injured.  If the health care workforce is to grow, young people must have greater and more positive exposure to health care professionals.  That is where you come in.  By visiting your chosen school or community-based organization and sharing health career opportunities with the young people there, you will be letting them into a world of opportunity, expanding their personal horizons, and exposing them in a positive way to a health care professional ... you.  As a role model, you make an important difference in a child's life and at the same time contribute to the future of U.S. health care.

Thank you for your interest in the Health Resources and Services Administration's Kids into Health Careers (KIHC) Initiative.  As a participant, you will introduce the world of health professions and related career opportunities to (1) school counselors, teachers, and/or administrators; (2) students in grades 6-12 or K-5; and (3) their parents. 

Within this Web site is a complete KIHC information package with guidance materials to use in working with local school systems.  The operating instructions will give you direction on how to choose and address your audience, either at a school or community-based organization.

This is an important task.  At the beginning of the 21^st century, the need for health care professionals is large and growing.  It is hoped that by reaching children at an early age, they will choose health careers and will be prepared accordingly.  Your efforts will have an impact on the next generation of health care delivery and service.
