Nursing in 3D: Workforce Diversity, Health Disparities, and Social Determinants of Health Public Health Reports supplement focuses on the accomplishments and lessons learned from the 2012 Nursing in 3D summit. The topics featured during the Nursing in 3D summit and in this supplement are inextricably linked to health equity. The supplement advances understanding around the intersecting goals of increased workforce diversity, fair and equal access to quality health care and health care resources, elimination of health disparities, and health equity.
Achieving health equity for all requires a collective effort across disciplines and sectors, including many outside of health care. Therefore the supplement takes a cross-disciplinary approach to examining efforts and work underway to address health disparities and health equity specifically within the context of the social determinants of health. The supplement provides stakeholders (including key federal staff) an opportunity to see how programs can incorporate workforce diversity, health disparities, and the social determinants of health.
The Nursing in 3D Summit convened experts, thought leaders and key workforce diversity stakeholders to identify the full range of academic and health system factors, as well as the social, economic and environmental determinants that influence our ability to diversify the nursing workforce. The Summit brought together stakeholders and nursing workforce diversity grantees to apply the social determinants of health framework to advance our understanding of the complex interactions between nursing workforce diversity and population health disparities.
